How to create the perfect eyebrow shape

Eyebrow shaping methods: Waxing, Threading, Plucking and Laser

Waxing:

Sugar Waxing TreatmentPros:  Waxed eyebrows will take longer to grow back.

Cons: Waxing tends to be the most painful method as it strips off the top layer of skin.  This may also cause irritation on sensitive skin.

Indian Threading:

Indian Hair ThreadingPros: Threading is a South Asian beauty technique that gives your eyebrows a more defined look.

Cons: Eyebrow hairs need to be fairly long before they can be threaded, so grow your eyebrow hairs for longer.

Plucking:

Hair Removal PluckingPros: Plucking is the most cost effective eyebrow shaping method. Practice makes perfect.

Cons: Plucked eyebrows require more maintenance as the hair grows back much quicker.

Laser:

Indian Hair ThreadingPros: Laser treatment removes eyebrow hairs permanently.

Cons: Works better with light skin/dark haired women and can be very expensive.

A few simple tips to help you achieve the perfect eyebrow shape.

Shaped eyebrows help to lift features and give proportion to the face. Your features will look more prominent and your eyes bolder. Threading and waxing are also ways to shape eyebrows and are easily available on the high street. Why not save a few pennies and master the art of eyebrow shaping at home. Our top tips can help you.

Tip 1 Always use natural daylight as it allows you to see more clearly than artificial light.

Tip 2 You will need good quality stainless-steel tweezers, a small hand held mirror and a large mirror.

Tip 3 Use the hand held mirror for close up plucking, then use the large mirror to look at both brows as you pluck. It helps if you sit or stand in front of a large mirror so that you can quickly check that your eyebrows are staying even as you pluck them.

Tip 4 You should always shape both eyebrows at the same time so that they stay even.

Tip 5 To minimize pain try plucking after a hot shower or after you have washed/steamed your face.

Top tips to avoid over plucking:

Tip 1 Pluck a little from both sides.

Tip 2 Always maintain your natural shape.

Tip 3 Your eyebrows should start before your eyes not after, so be careful.

Tip 4 Never pluck above the brow – this is your natural shape, you should never pluck this area as it less likely to grow back the same.

Tip 5 Pluck in two sittings. Particularly if this is your first time plucking or if your eyebrows have not been plucked for a long time. In the first sitting you should pluck the hair that obviously needs to be removed. You should come back for your second sitting to closely shape your eyebrows.

Tip 6 If you mange to over pluck or make a mistake, you simply need to let your eyebrows grow out and try again when they have grown back. If you carry on making the same mistake you could leave permanent gaps in your eyebrows.

Please note that skin of colour, which contains melanocytes – cells that give the skin pigment, are especially active – they produce more colour. Even Black skin, Asian skin and Latina skin with light skin tones have very sensitive skin and unstable pigment cells. It is advised not to excessively pluck or wax eyebrows as this may cause discolouring to your skin.
